Some face abuse, absent parents, or are forced to contend with the dangers of street life; many will be doomed to fall through the cracks, and their prospects of a hopeful future are minimal to none. I may have worked in some of the most desolate and unforgiving places on earth, but I’m far from heartless.
One of my primary callings is reaching out to at risk youth. I believe that if we can make life-changing opportunities available to kids of all demographics, they have every hope of getting on and sticking to the right track.
For this reason, my Fighting Chance Project was formed.
What is Fighting Chance?
People like to know that their donations are going to help people, and not going toward paying for lunch for the employees of the charity. And that’s one of the major reasons why I try to encourage my team to make our charitable works an active process, rather than simply donating funds.
I am committed to making a difference – in the lives of my clients, my students, my team, and in the lives of our youth. I believe it’s our responsibility to give back to the communities in which we live and work. I proudly sponsor local events, create and host numerous activities, and partner with nonprofit organizations to create scholarships to my studio – all to benefit our youth.
Just how do we accomplish that?
By Providing Positive Role Models
Often, what at risk youth need most are positive role models. My team and member family are living, breathing, thriving adults that kids can look up to. Not only do youth have the opportunity to learn awesome real-world skills, they are surrounded by a community of mentors who are ready to teach and impart priceless values, like discipline and respect.
By Improving Health and Fitness
You can’t put a price tag on health, and I know that most of our exercise and dietary habits are learned when we’re young. We place the utmost importance on improving the health and fitness of our youth—yeah, we make Jillian Michaels proud.
Our self defense methods allow kids to gain muscular strength, endurance, balance and agility, improved coordination, and also helps to boost their cardiovascular fitness. We teach healthy eating habits and provide access to nutritious, hot meals.
I believe if kids are physically fit and their nutritional needs are being adequately met, they’ll be better able to cope with everyday life stresses. Additionally, they’ll have built a foundation for a long and healthy life.
By Offering No/Low-Cost Training
I firmly believe that every kid should have the opportunity to be healthy, fit, and in a positive and uplifting environment. One way we do this is by making no- and low-cost training available to those who truly need it. My door is open to all—classes and training programs can be tailored to meet any skill level.
Our outreach programs are designed to strengthen our community and empower our youth.
