Robber Tries to Rob MMA Fighter Girl and Takes a Beating

If you’re a girl and you’re looking for just one reason to become a fighter, then watch this video. Even if you’re not a feminist, I think most of us rejoice anytime we get to witness a girl giving a bad guy a beat down. Long story short, dudes…think twice about who you’re gonna rob! While most girls may look like easy targets, you never know which ones are mixed martial artists.

Monique Bastos from Facebook

Monique Bastos and her two friends were walking to their jiu-jitsu training in Acailandia, Brazil when two men rode up on a motorcycle. The thieves told the girls they wanted their phones, but Bastos quickly realized neither of the men were armed. After taking the girls' phones, the men tried to leave. That's when Bastos lifted the rear wheel of the motorcycle, causing both men to fall on the ground. The man who had her phone ran away, but she was able to get a hold of his accomplice. How unfortunate for him.

Bastos immediately put the man in a rear-naked choke and brought him down to the sidewalk where she then put him in a triangle choke and waited for the police to arrive. With six professional MMA fights on her record plus a couple jiu-jitsu and muay thai bouts to include as well, it's safe to say Bastos wasn't about to be taken advantage of. Wesley Sousa de Araujo was arrested 15 minutes after Bastos brought him to the ground.

Judging by how much he's screaming in the video (since removed), I'd say he regretted trying to rob Bastos and her friends. What's even more wild is this wasn't the first time she's used her fighting skills to defend herself and her friends in an attack. “I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back,” she said.

There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.

Talk about girl power. This is just one episode all women should keep in mind when they think about self defense. If Bastos can do it, so can you.
